What’s the why?
Why am I doing this? Most simply, I’m using a gift that has been given to me.
I know there are countless people who can do what I do. Numerous people who are gifted creatively. And many who far outstrip me in talent and experience.
So why do it? Because I enjoy it. I enjoy creating and using that to bless others. Sometimes that’s as small as crafting thoughtful words in a birthday card for a friend. Every now and then, it’s making a poster with scripture on it for a new family. On one occasion, it was painting a rock for my mum’s birthday. I love giving this gift away. Which can often feel at odds with pricing & selling. But I’m grateful if this can be a gift that also blesses my family financially - and then we can, in turn, bless others with it.
Also, I think we can often dismiss what we have been gifted to do, in the face of so many others also being talented, gifted or driven in the same area. Personally, I think that can be an unhelpful level of comparison. Only you are you. What I bring to lettering, illustration etc is different from what someone else would bring to it. We’re unique. Unique stories & perspectives. We need all sorts of different people in the same sorts of fields. Don’t write yourself off.
And if you enjoy creating, do it! Even if it’s just (and it’s never “just”) a way to switch off and take some time for yourself, then embrace it.
